Hip Tendonitis

Hip tendonitis mimics many other inflammatory conditions around the hip. There are three main problematic tendons around the hip: Rectus Femorus, Adductor Magnus/ Longus and Ilio-psoas. All of these tendons may become irritated with overuse where the point at which the muscle anchors to the bone becomes inflamed. Chronic inflammation can lead to calcium build up at the site of irritation, but rarely causes tendon rupture. Treatment consists of anti-inflammatory medication, rest and physical therapy. Stretching of the muscle tendon unit is recommended. Corticosteroid injection may be indicated in refractory cases.
