Injuries to the shoulder and surrounding short shirt are common with athletic activities. The shoulder joint is a ball-and-socket joint with a very shallow socket. Because of this the shoulder can move through a wide variety of positions. However because of the shape and shallow nature of the socket, the shoulder is at greater risk of injury including dislocation and tears of the tendons and supporting ligamentous structures.
